Skelwith Bridge to Stonethwaite
14miles 2500ft
Leaving Skelwith Bridge via Skelwith force....
....following the river Brathay towards Elterwater
Passing the Brittania Inn, Elterwater....
....and continuing into Great Langdale with a view up to Stickle Ghyll....
....soon the Old Dungeon Ghyll hotel comes into view with the 'Band' in cloud behind
Mickleden valley with our route up Stake Pass rising to the gap on the right
Looking back down Mickleden as we gained height
After our first soaking with rain on the whole walk, Mark posed for his photo at the cairn marking the top
of the pass 1576ft
Lunchtime looking at the route ahead down the Langstrath valley....
before Mark decided he wasn't already wet enough and decided to take a dip....No that's not Mark jumping in....
.....here he is swimming up the gorge!!!!
Whilst Mark dressed again the rain arrived again and continued pouring down to our destination..... Stonethwaite - After all, this woudn't be Borrowdale if it didn't rain!
A few were taking shelter in the pub doorway - it was closed
Finally this very appropriate memorial was fastened to the pub wall!!!!
Now well over halfway on our walk with just 2 days left to go
