Wainwright's Coast-to-Coast Walk

LancashireCam's intrepid walker, having completed the Pennine Way, has now taken on Wainwright's Coast-to-Coast Walk from St. Bees Head, in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire - 192 miles.

Day 1:  St Bees to Ennerdale. 15 miles - 2,500 ft.

The start of the walk on sea-front at St Bees

An outline map of the route

The walk starts with a 3 mile climb over the cliffs of St Bees Head
(Shame about the sloping horizon!)

Climbing higher and the town comes into view

I think doing it on horse back is cheating!

Approaching the Barrow to Carlisle rail line

Is this a statue of a 'Meanderthal' on the edge of Row Moor?

Only 184 miles to go now!

The town of Cleator Moor (foregound) and the Solway Firth with the Galloway peninsular on the horizon.
Vivid greens on the slopes of the out-lying hills and valleys.

Looking from Dent Fell to the Lakeland mountains with
Scafell Pike 977m (left centre) and Scafell 964m (right centre)
