Day 1: Lancaster to Arnside
17.5 miles 1200ft
St Peter's Cathedral Lancaster
Mark & myself all set to go!
We joined the Lancaster canal just down the road from the cathedral
Crossing the river Lune as we headed north over the canal aqueduct....
....with a view back to Lancaster castle & priory church
We left the canal after 4 or 5 miles....
....and crossed the west coast mainline railway to....
....Morecambe bay sea front - looking back towards Morecambe
We came across this sculpture entitled
"Praying Hands" by Anthony Padget
Passing Carnforth....
and the seafront at Silverdale....
....followed by the climb up Arnside Knott with a misty view to Grange over Sands....
....and Arnside railway viaduct
Finally we arrived at today's destination, Our Lady's catholic church in Arnside
We'll be continuing the walk one day each week for the next 5 weeks before reaching St. Mary's Cleator on Sunday September 10th
This will coincide with the 3pm service with the Lancaster Diocesan Pilgrimage taking place there.
Great photos Michael and Mark and lovely countryside. Well done on the first part of your Walk for the Rwanda Charity. Myra 👍
