St Mary's Way Sponsored Walk

Day 2: Grange-over-Sands to

Newby Bridge 10.5m 1900ft

After driving round the estuary we set off again on day (2) from the sands, or grass, of Grange over Sands....
....and climbed Hampsfell with a view back over the estuary to Arnside
On top of the fell is this 'Hospice' a resting place for the monks walking to Furness Abbey on the CistercianWay
Mark stood at the view point on top of the Hospice....
We then descended to Cartmel Priory church which unfortuately was locked....
The priory has this unusual off set tower
We then crossed the racecourse, fortuately no racing today!
After heading north for several miles, uphill and down dale, we stopped for lunch here at Bigland tarn....
....more hills and dales followed as we continued north towards the approaching Lake District fells....
....until we arrived at our destination at the attractive village of Newby Bridge....
The weir on the river leven just below the bridge....
Finally on seeing the calm waters Mark seemed to very much regret not having brought his swimming trunks!!
If you feel able to sponsor us for our Charity

Thank you
