The Samuel Crompton Trail (Bolton) part 1

Samuel Crompton's birthplace (1753) in Firwood Fold on the outskirts of Bolton.
Samuel Crompton was the inventor of the Spinning Mule. It was a development of Richard Arkright's 'Water Frame' and James Hargreaves' 'Spinning Jenny'. It significantly transformed Britain's textile industry.

These cottages are a 'cruck- frame' construction.
Part of the 'A' frame can be seen in the wall between the cottages.

The A-frame can clearly be seen here

  1. I must be honest I'd not heard of Samuel Crompton before so your text has added to the enjoyment of these images.
