A Walk in the Northern fells

Bowscale fell, Bannerdale crags & Blencathra 8.5miles 3000ft

Parking in the hamlet of Mosedale on the eastern edge of the fells
Looking back down the path....
....and ahead up the path into Mosedale itself
A short climb on the good path leads to Bowscale tarn
....and again
....followed by a steep climb towards Bowscale fell. Each time I stopped for leg rest I was eaten alive by midges. The only place on the walk where they were a nuisance.
The wind shelter on Bowscale fell summit 2303ft with Blencathra range straight ahead. However I was first visiting....
....Bannerdale crags
Looking down Bannerdale
Arriving at Bannerdale crags summit 2241ft
Leaving the summit and now heading for Blencathra
Stopping for lunch with a view to the back of the Skiddaw fells before....
....making a short diversion to view the summit exit of 'Sharp Edge' a rather more exciting route up Blencathra....!
....a small group were arriving just below me....
....and again
The summit 2848ft is marked by an Ordnance Survey circle rather than a trig point, The little cairn is a more recent addition!  Derwent Water is behind.
These people are arriving via the Hall's Fell ridge route which though steep does have a path all the way
There were plenty of folk on the summit plateau
This route via Scales fell was my route down....
....with view across to Sharp Edge
The A66 heading towards Penrith
Finally down at the White Horse, Scales to wait for my lift back to the car.
A fantastic day's walking on some great fells in almost perfect weather.
