Day '6' Carnforth to Carlisle

Aira Force to Eamont Bridge

13miles 900ft

No walk last week due to a few nights B&B under the care of the NHS!

Setting off from the side of  Ullswater at Aira Force
Following the path under Yew Crag....
....before returning to the lakeside path
Wintering yachts and their mooring jetties near Castle Point
There's a splendid view down Ullswater from the ferry landings at Pooley Bridge
The river Eamont from the 'Pooley Bridge'
The new single spanned bridge which replaced the original which was very badly damaged in the unprecendented floods of 2015
Pooley Bridge main street
St Michael's church Barton from the new 5 mile Eamont Way footpath linking Pooley Bridge with Penrith railway station
This footbridge carries the path over the river Eamont to Penrith. However my route continued along the riverside to Yanwath village
Yanwath Hall with it's very well preserved
14th century Pele tower

Entering Eamont Bridge I passed the Millenium Memorial Stone dedicated by the bishop of Penrith.

It's a fifty tonne block of granite brought from Shap quarries just down the road.

Eamont Bridge main street which is the A6 trunk road which prior to the M6 motorway was the main west coast road north to Scotland!
A very pleasant day's walking with some nice scenery and plenty of interest along the way

  1. Those are beautiful pictures! I just found your blog and have a read through the walks you have done. I am always looking for new routes. Usually local to South Ribble but we don't mind a bit of a drive for a nice view :)
