 A Linear Walk

Shap Summit to Tebay

11miles 1300ft

Just before sunrise:
Setting off from the A6 crossing Shap summit 1350ft.
This memorial is dedicated to the workforce who built the first road over the fell often in appalling weather conditions but well looked after by the local population.
A few minutes later and here comes the sun.
"The sun to govern the day"....
....and behind me "The moon to govern the night"
Descending to the col before Crookdale Crag and the sun gives a repeat performance....
....and here it comes again
Walking directly into the sun regretting not remembering my sun glasses!
Looking down into Borrowdale.
This is 'The other Borrowdale' not the lake district one
....and again
Across the valley Whinfell beacon, Ashtead fell & Mabbin crag
Fell ponies on Winterscleugh fell....
and the diminuitive cairn on Winterscleugh summit
Crossing the summit ridge....
.....to Jeffrey's Mount where the M6 motorway & the West Coast Mainline pass through the Lune Valley
Zooming in on the previous photo and look at what you see!   An RAF Eurofighter Typhoon
The season of rest for the pony trekkers!
Crossing the river Lune just before Tebay....
....and finally taking a slight detour to visit Tebay's
Motte & Bailey castle..... where sheep now play
'King of the Castle'
