Bronte Country: A week of poor walking weather and a busy schedule meant this would be just a short walk at the end of the week.
A circular walk from Ponden reservoir passing Ponden Clough, Alcomden stones, Top Withins & the Bronte bridge. 6miles & 1000ft.
Setting off from Ponden reservoir on a cold, still & misty morningLooking across the reservoir to the hamlet of Scar Top
More reflections in the still water
On the way to the top of the crag I passed two young aquatic scientists who were walking from their vehicle up the clough to take samples of stream water to take to their lab for analysis of the invertebrates in the water! More to come about this later!
Arriving at Penistone crag....
....before finding one of the scientists was just being helped out of the stream having taken an unintended dip!
Continuing now to the top of the moor to Alcomden Stones....
....and the trig point at 444m 1457ft
After crossing the moor I descended to Top Withins or 'Wuthering Heights' in the novel of the same name.... .....followed by the Bronte bridge
....and again
Lower Laithe reservoir as I walked back towards Ponden reservoir
Finally the last descent to the reservoir where I was parked. Shame about the weather but still an interesting walk!
