Old Dungeon Ghyll to Seathwaite (Borrowdale)

An exhilarating day on the high fells - From the Old Dungeon Ghyll an ascent of Bowfell via the Climbers Traverse, Esk pike and descent into Borrowdale via Esk Hause and Sty Head tarn. 11.5miles 3350ft

Apologies for the late posting this week due to technical problem!!!

Leaving the ODG hotel at 7am with Bowfell ahead

It's always seems a long slog up the Band to the start of the traverse

The Langdale pikes on the other side of Mickleden

The view back down the Langdale valley from the start of the traverse....       (This will look familiar Danny!)

....and the way ahead to Bowfell buttress, rock climbers use the route to get to the start of their climbs. However there is also a boulder path ascent nearby which requires no climbing ability.

Looking back along a section of the traverse

Bowfell buttress now in view ahead

Nearing the top of the boulder path....

....which affords good views of Bowfell's Great Slab

Bowfell summit 2960ft with a great view of the Scafell massif

The way ahead to Esk pike

Lake Windermere from the top of Bowfell Buttress....

....and zooming in Scafell pike from Esk pike summit 2903ft

Lingmell fell with the impressive Piers ghyll leading to the Lingmell col and Scafell pike       (Also familiar to you Danny)

After passing Sprinkling & Sty Head tarns the path finally starts the descent to Seathwaite in Borrowdale

Approaching Seathwaite farm after a wonderful day's walk
