Black Coombe (south Cumbria)

Starting the climb from near Bootle on the West Cumbrian coast

Looking north to the River Esk estuary with Sellafield on the horizon

Just missing a rain cloud as it passes over the Duddon valley to the east

Looking back down on Bootle

The trig point in the centre of the wind shelter on the summit 600m (1970ft)

Descending towards Barrow in Furness

Lots of heather on the hillsides

Walney Island on the south side of the River Duddon estuary

Zooming in on Barrow and the Walney channel between between it and Walney Island

Descending towards the village of Silecroft with HMP Haverigg visible centre horizon

Finishing the walk at
Whicham Old School car-park

Signs of autumn's approach in the hedgerow
