A return to the Yorkshire Dales:

Upper Wharfedale, a circuit over Buckden Pike from the village of Buckden returning along the Dales Way.    10.5miles 2000ft.

Setting off from Buckden village before the sun appeared in the dale....
....it was a beautiful cold frosty morning....
.....and the moon hadn't yet set in the west
Looking back down the dale to the Buckden from the start of the climb up Buckden Pike....
.....and up the dale to Hubberholme as the sunshine arrived
The view up Langstrothdale
Hubberholme village again
A very different landscape from Lakeland at 2000ft.
but with an amazing sense of space
Looking west from the summit trig point and cairn 2303ft.

....and east
A little further on across the summit plateau is a memorial to 5 Polish aircrew who died here in their Wellington bomber on 31st January 1942 There was one survivor who in 1973 gave thanks by constructing this memorial with the help of the local Parker family.....
....as is evident it's still well cared for today
Looking down Cam Gill beck to Wharfedale....
....and back to Buckden Pike summit....
....and again from  lower down....
.....before descending to the village of Starbottom
Stopping for a late lunch by the river Wharfe where I joined the Dales way for the 2 or 3 miles back to Buckden village
Following the Dales Way along the riverside
Finally it's that time of year again when Spring isn't too far away as the Snowdrops start to blossom!
