Troutbeck to Brotherswater via The Tongue, Threshthwaite Mouth, Stony Cove Pike  & Caudale Moor 11miles 2900ft.

Setting off from Church Bridge parking area Troutbeck
There had been heavy overnight rain leaving it wet underfoot and early cloud cover on the fells. I was heading up the Troutbeck valley for The Tongue, the little fell lying in the middle of the valley.
Looking over the valley where the sun was just beginning to break through
Looking back from the path ascending The Tongue
From the summit of The Tongue I could see the road leading up  Kirkstone pass, with Red Screes in cloud behind
A gentle climb to the top of the pass at Threshthwaite mouth came next....
.....with a lovely view back down the valley
The view to Ullswater to the north on reaching the top of the pass
Looking down from the steep climb to Stony Cove Pike, another walker was just visible immediately below
The Kentmere fells from the summit 2502ft
Just below the summit on Caudale Moor is this monument  commemorating Mark Atkinson a farmer and licensee of the Kirkstone Pass Inn who died in 1930, also his son Ion who died in 1987 asked that his ashes be left here.
Standing on Caudale Head with Brotherswater below and Ullswater  in the distance
Lunchtime sat in the grass above Brotherswater
Behind me was Kirkstone pass with the Kirkstone Inn at the top of the pass
I recommend this descent off Caudale Moor as one of the most scenic in the Lake District. The pictures don't do it justice as there were views in all directions
Passing through the disused Caudale quarry
Crossing Caudale beck at the end of the descent....
.....to Brotherswater

Finally this must be what the 'Lilly Whites' are named after!
