Burnbank fell, Blake fell, Gavel fell and Hen Comb

Burnbank fell, Blake fell, Gavel fell and Hen Comb from Loweswater 9.5miles  2650ft

Setting off from Loweswater on a perfectly still
and misty
morning.

Looking down on Loweswater from the path to Burnbank Fell

Loweswater again from near the summit of Burnbank Fell
1580ft

A short walk in mist up the ridge to the wind shelter on
Blake Fell 1878ft

The cloud rose from the summit to reveal a lovely view to
the water of Cogra Moss below

The cloud continued to rise up out of the valleys

There was still a little hanging around as I walked on
towards Gavel Fell

From the summit of Gavel Fell I could see last week's ridge
walk across Great Borne, Starling Dodd and Red Pike

I then headed across to Hen Comb on the horizon

Great Borne from the climb up Hen Comb

The view north back to Loweswater from the summit of
Hen
Comb 1661ft

Looking south from the summit to the Buttermere fells and
lake

Then looking east to Melbreak and the Grasmoor fells

Starting the descent down the ridge over Little Dodd to
Loweswater

Crossing Mosedale beck

Finally the Kirkstile Inn at Loweswater in the village ahead

Great Borne, Starling Dodd & Red Pike from Buttermere 10.5miles 3100ft

Setting off from the village of Buttermere on a perfect late
summer's morning

Taking the path beside Crummock Water, Melbreak fell on the horizon

Looking back to Fleetwith Pike

A little further along Crummock Water

Leaving the lakeside to cross the moss to climb Great Borne above
Floutern Pass

Looking back from above the pass the way I'd come from Crummock
water

The summit trig point on Great Borne 2019ft with the Cumbrian coast
behind

Crag Fell above Ennerdale Water which was part of last week's walk

A panorama looking back - Ennerdale (L) Buttermere (R) and the
Solway coast behind

Crummock Water and Grasmoor from the path to Starling Dodd

The way ahead to Red Pike from Starling Dodd summit 2085ft

A panorama of the Grasmoor fells

Arriving at the summit of Red Pike, today's highest point 2479ft

Crummock Water again from the summit

The steep & badly eroded path down past Blea Tarn back to
Buttermere

Zooming in on Buttermere village

A magnificent day's walk with three Wainwright's. However I'd climbed and counted Red Pike previously, so just two more done today leaving ten to complete.

Grike, Crag Fell, Caw (Ennerdale) & Lank Rigg 14miles 3300ft

Leaving the car parked just south of Ennerdale Bridge to start the
climb up Grike

A little higher and St Bees Head on the coast next to Whitehaven
comes into view

The valley of the river Calder flowing to the coast. Calder Hall on
its banks was the original original name for the nuclear power station, which became Windscale and then Sellafield!

Some interesting skies from the summit of Grike 1596ft

....and forwards to the climb up to the long ridge of Caw

Ennerdale Water shortly after from Crag Fell 1710ft

Looking back to Grike and Crag Fell....

The Loweswater and Buttermere fells from near the summit of Caw

Haycock....

....and the Scafells from the summit of Caw, today's highest point
2288ft

On the descent I passed some sheep farmers with their very clever
dogs gathering the sheep from the fell tops

After a good deal of ups and downs the summit of Lank Rigg was in
sight

Lank Rigg  trig point on the final summit of the day

Finishing with a panorama of the West Cumbria coast from Black Combe (Nr Barrow) to the Solway Firth

A Total of 4 Wainwrights today leaving just 12 more!

If anyone would like to sponsor me to finish the last 12 Wainright's for our registered charity, The Rwanda Group Trust, that helps the poorest of the poor in Rwanda please follow the link below.

Thanks!

Tarn Crag (Grasmere) & Little Mell Fell 9.5miles 2200ft

Two more of the Wainwright's to climb today.

Leaving Grasmere on the path to Far Easedale with Tarn Crag today's
objective on the horizon

Danny on a bridge - well he is a Meanderthal

Actually, Danny's not doing what you might think!
It's just a path
through very high bracken.

Taking a selfie? with Easedale Tarn below

Looking back down the east ridge of Tarn Crag

Standing proudly in the sunshine on the summit at 1801ft....

...whilst there on the Langdales and all around were black clouds

Starting the descent  to Codale Tarn with the Langdales now clear
of cloud

Zooming in on the village of Grasmere

A panorama view of Easedale tarn

Descending alongside Sour Milk Gill

A delightful place for lunch by the pool at the foot of the falls -
Danny was unwilling to take a dip though!

Yours truly posing by the falls

Then after a short drive we parked at the base of Little Mell Fell.
Ullswater could be seen from the climb to the top.

Ullswater again with Hallin Fell, Steel Knotts and behind them is
High Street on the horizon
Finally reaching the top of Little Mell fell 1657ft

Just 16 more Wainright's left to climb!

If anyone would like to sponsor me to finish the last 16 Wainright's for our registered charity, The Rwanda Group Trust, that helps the poorest of the poor in Rwanda please follow the link below.

Thanks!
