A circuit of the England National Coastal Trail, Walney Island section. 17 miles 400ft. Prepartion for the Preston Guild Wheel 21 miles sponsored walk 24th August.

.....and now for something completely different - A circuit of the England National Coastal Trail, Walney Island section. 17 miles 400ft.
Preparation for the Preston Guild Wheel 21 miles sponsored walk on the 24th August.

Setting off from Walney Island seafront

Heading South on the anticlockwise circuit

Looking back along the front to Black Coombe (Lakeland fell)

Nearing the most southerly point....

....having climbed to the trig point on Hare Hill at the dizzy
height of 16m (52ft)

Peel castle on the Peel Island

Now heading north on the Barrow mainland side of the island passing the Vicker's shipyard

Approaching the Jubilee Bridge, the only connection with Barrow town

Looking back south to Peel Island

Looking across to Barrow town hall clock

Continuing north towards the ever visible, Black Coombe.

The path then enters the North Island nature reserve....

....and its wide variety of habitats.

....and again

....and again

....and again

....and again,

before the reserve is left by this very artistic gate.

ditto

after which the path passes Walney airport.

and completes the circuit back on the island's seafront.
A highly recommended walk with a fantastic variety of views and habitats but better done in 2 or 3 walks taking more time!
