Hadrian's Wall to Hexham 15.5miles 1250ft

Starting the walk at Housesteads Roman Fort

Much of The Wall is built along the ridge of a Basalt Sill

Broomlee Lough on the north side of the wall

Alongside the wall is 'The Vallum', an earthwork ditch to protect
the wall

....and again

Two Roman soldiers out patrolling the wall!
(Does the sign apply to chariots?) (AGD)

Rape seed fields in the North Tyne valley

The Boatside Inn on the banks of the South Tyne

Entering Hexham through Tynedale country park

Hexham Abbey....

....and its interior....

....and a quick half in 'spoons before the bus back
