High Cup Nick circular from Dufton 9.5 miles 1800ft ascent

Heading into the valley on the path from Dufton

Looking back across the Eden valley to the Howgill fells

Starting the climb up the valley

High Cup Nick comes into view....

.....getting closer

Wild ponies grazing in the valley

Looking back down the length of the valley....

....and at the awkward climb ahead before....

....finally emerging on the summit of the Nick...

....with its stark geology

....and again

The Pennine Way passes across the top and continues over about ten miles of remote fells before dropping into Teesdale

Spot the bridge in 'the bridge photo'

Descending back to Dufton with Dufton Pike, Knock Pike and Burney Hill in view to the west..

....and Murton Pike and Roman Fell to the east

Approaching Dufton village....

....on the Pennine Way
