Day 9, the final day of my Barrow in Furness to Barrowford walk
14.5 miles 1400ft
Setting off from the war memorial in Gargrave.....
.....where the Pennine Way passes through the village
One of the viaducts on the Skipton to Carlisle line with Winterburn Moor behind
One of many fine residences on the side of the Leeds Liverpool canal which I was now joining
Passing under the A59 trunk road to Skipton
The church of St Peter stands very close to the canal side and is well worth a visit
Leaving the canal at Thornton in Craven to join the Pendle Way Path
"Do you like my new horn style?"
The Pendle Way distinctive path signs complete with witch on broomstick
Now back to the canal path at Salterforth
I only saw two boats actually sailing all day due to the low level of water in the canal....
....This was the other one emerging from the mile long Foulridge Tunnel, at the other end of which is my final destinination of Barrowford
Barrowford locks....
....and Barrowford reservoir looking very depleted
My walk finished at the Pendle Heritage Centre....
where the walled garden was very impressive despite the lack of rain and hot sun over the past weeks
Finally at my journeys end on the side of the main road waiting for my lift back to Gargrave.
My latest long distance walk completed having come 123.5miles and climbed 11800ft
A walk with great variety including coast, high fells, lakes, rivers, canals, pretty villages, towns and much much more.
Watch this space for what comes next!
