The Dales High Way - Day 1 - Appleby to Newbiggin 13.5miles 1400ft ascent

The Dales High Way is a new  90-mile high level walk through the Yorkshire Dales from Appleby to Saltaire.
This is in addition to the original Dales Way
from Ilkey to Bowness on Windermere.

The walk leaves Appleby and the river Eden........

.......and the first part of the day is through gentle rolling counntryside

....and attractive riverside paths.....

.....with good views back to High Cup Nick....

......and the Cross Fell range.......
...before arriving in Great Asby in nice time for lunch.

The walk continues over Ravenstonedale moor past Sunbiggin tarn.

.....with the enticing prospect of the high level route over the Howgill fells for Day 2 on the horizon.
