Simon's Seat via the Valley of Desolation - Wharfedale

Setting off near the River Wharfe

Climbing through the Valley of  Desolation so named after the forest here was washed away in a great storm of 1826 - Global Warming?

Emerging onto Barden Fell

Simon's Seat appears on the horizon

Very popular on a crisp, sunny bank holiday

The summit trig point (485m)

Parceval Hall in Skyerholme Beck (centre) and
Grimwith reservoir (top right)

Zooming in on Parceval Hall and gardens -
well worth a visit in summer.

The rocky outcrop of  Lord's Seat also on Barden fell

Looking back to Simon's Seat from Lord's Seat

RAF Menwith Hill, which provides communications and intelligence support to the UK and the USA.

Back at the River Wharfe near Bolton Abbey.
