Arriving at Ennerdale lake after setting off  from the village

The path follows the south side of the lake beneath Anglers Crag

Early morning cloud still covers the high fells at the head of the valley

There is much evidence of the logging industry in the Ennerdale forest

Pillar mountain (892m) with the distinctive Pillar Rock on it's north slopes

Emerging from the forest in upper Ennerdale - from R to L are Kirk fell, Great Gable (899m) Windy Gap (centre) Green Gable (801m), and Brandreth (715m)

Black Sail youth hostel is only accessible on foot and nestles at the head  of the valley

Great Gable and Green Gable dominate the valley

Back down the valley (R to L) Pillar, and Looking Stead

Drumlin glacial drift on the valley floor

Climbing out of the valley Ennerdale Lake comes into view
Emerging near the top the views open up all round
