Littleborough to Marsden (part 1)

A walk from the Lancashire cotton town of Littleborough to the Yorkshire wool town of Marsden

Start of the walk at Littleborough railway station

Along the shore of Hollingworth Lake

Passing under the M62 linking the west of Lancashire to the east of Yorkshire

Looking back with the lake in the distance

Onto the moors now with the  Smithy Bridge on the far side of the lake

Ogden reservoir

Kitcliffe reservoir

Piethorne and Ogden reservoirs with Rochdale in the distance

Zooming in on the 'high rise flats' of Rochdale

Much work is being done to improve the paths up here......
.... and a very good job they are doing!

Alston & South Tynedale (part 2)

The Roman fort of Epiacum...

.... this is what you see today

The Pennine Way then drops to the River South Tyne

It's nice to be off the boggy moors for a while

One of the many  viaducts on the disused branch line from Haltwhistle to Alston

......then back to the boggy moor again!

.....More soggy moorland!

Then joining the 'Maiden Way', the old Roman road between Epiacum Fort and Hadrians Wall about 10 miles to the north of here

Continuing on the 'Maiden Way' to the road at the hamlet of Lambley
