A circuit of a selection of fells & valleys of central & northern Lakeland

Day 4 Seatoller to Keswick via Dale Head, Hindscarth & Scope End.

11.5miles 2900ft

Setting off from Seatoller village having caught the bus from Keswick
Looking up towards Kirkstone pass as I start the climb to Dale Head summit
Gaining height and looking back into Borrowdale with Glaramara (top left) from last week's walk
Castle crag and the 'Jaws of Borrowdale'
Arriving at the disused High Scawdal mining complex
Entrances to two of the mines, very dangerous now to be exploring!
Zooming in on the village of Rosthwaite
Gaining height on Dale Head with a view to Eel Crags
Looking down Newlands valley.....
.....before arriving at Dale Head summit 753m 2471ft just as the cloud descended with some very gusty winds!
Leaving the summit with a view to Fleetwith Pike as I set off  for Hindscarth.
Buttermere was just visible in the valley
Looking down into  Newlands with Eel crags and High Spy above....
....before arriving at Hindscarth summit shelter 2386ft for lunch
Zooming in on the fell ridges to the east....
....and Cat Bells with Keswick just visible behind
Now descending the ridge to Scope End
Down in the Newlands valley and crossing Newlands beck
Looking back to Scope End, Hindscarth & Dale Head
Passing Littletown church
The ever popular Cat Bells....
....and finally crossing the river Derwent to my car in Keswick
Another great day's walking with some superb mountain scenery despite not having the best of weather and very "tough on the ageing knees" descent from Hindscarth!
